Since Alyssa Irwin was 12 years old, she aspired to build a career in a creative industry. She knew she wanted to become some type of artist —maybe a web designer or filmmaker. It wasn’t until she was describing a hypothetical interior design layout for a high school friend’s future grilled cheese shop that the friend told her she should be an interior designer. Until then, Alyssa didn’t imagine interior design could be an option for her creative career. But once that inspiration took hold, she found and only applied to schools that offered interior design as a major.

After starting out working on commercial tenant improvement projects, Alyssa tried her hand at residential project management and design but was drawn back into the corporate design world by the opportunity to work with FS Design Group. Alyssa describes the work environment at FSDG as the best she’s ever experienced: kind and supportive and focused on career development. Alyssa’s job duties vary as she supports each step of the design process, including space planning, design development, creating construction documents and monitoring the construction process.

Alyssa’s past and present clients enjoy working with her because she is very organized and demonstrates a good balance of creativity and organization in both her work and her life.

In addition to supporting FS Design Group clients, Alyssa is very proud of the photography business she has been building for several years. She has developed a client portfolio across San Diego County for whom she captures portrait photos such as engagement photos, wedding photos, maternity photos, family photos and professional headshots.

During her free time, Alyssa enjoys meditating, playing piano, cooking vegan food, finding zero-waste swaps and boogie boarding at Ocean Beach. She has lived in San Diego for her entire life and currently resides in Golden Hill with her two cats.
