FS Design Group Principal Named a 2024 Mentor of the Year

San Diego Business Journal includes Amy Tobia as one of its 29 Mentors of the Year for 2024

What’s better than being honored for helping other people succeed!? We’re proud to share that San Diego Business Journal chose FS Design Group Principal Amy Tobia for its list of 2024 Mentors of the Year.

Giving Back: Interior Design Careers

Amy established a wonderful career for herself designing corporate interiors, tenant improvements, healthcare spaces and reimagining buildings. She brings the same kind of drive to helping others thrive in their careers as well.

Amy is a strong force in developing local design talent, opting to cross-train FS Design Group staff rather than create pigeonholed specialists. She ensures her staff have opportunities to learn all phases of design. As a result, the FS Design Group staff are well rounded and positioned for career growth. Team members continue to work on a project from start to finish, providing continuity and dependability for clients, too.

Giving Back: CRE Careers

Within the greater commercial real estate industry, Amy has given generously of her time to CREW San Diego. It’s an organization that brings women together to build professional and personal relationships, expand industry knowledge and expertise and support career development within the commercial real estate industry.

Amy supported CREW’s Programs & Education Committee for seven years as both a member and co-chair. She helped determine and engage speakers for forward-thinking luncheons, leadership breakfasts and networking events. FS Design Group also sponsors CREW San Diego’s ongoing programs.

Creating Opportunity

Amy also donates her time to ensuring everyone has equal rights and opportunities to make their voices heard through voting.

For the past six-plus years, Amy has volunteered for, and is the current chapter leader of RepresentUs, a non-partisan group focused on reforming elections to ensure they are free, fair and reflect the voice of the voters. In addition to serving on its More Choice Coalition to bring Ranked Choice Voting to San Diego, Amy wrote a script and raised funds for the organization’s 2023 Emmy Award-winning informational video, Democracy Dollars: Driving Us Forward. She works with volunteers regularly to help them get involved in these efforts and make an impact.

She also has sat as board proxy for Represent Us on the NANR board. The National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers is a member-led association dedicated to structural election reforms in the public interest.

Moving Forward

We have no doubt that Amy, and the 28 other mentors named to San Diego Business Journal’s 2024 list, will continue to help others to achieve their career and life goals.

Booker T. Washington said, “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” Congrats to all the very happy 2024 Mentors of the Year.
